About Us
We specialise in veterinary physiotherapy, a holistic approach to improve the health and rehabilitation of horses and dogs. With a focus on improving mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing overall well-being, we strive to make a positive difference in the lives of animals. Loosley Veterinary Physiotherapy provides physiotherapy services to horses and dogs throughout Beds, Herts, Bucks and Cambs. The leading physiotherapist is Hannah Loosley (MVetPhys). Hannah has grown up surrounded by horses and dogs and started riding horses from the age of 5 years old. This love for horses continued to grow and has led to Hannah pursuing a career in veterinary physiotherapy to help horses recover from injury. Hannah also has a specialist interest in equine biomechanics and rider biomechanics and provides performance treatments to help equine athletes perform at their optimal ability. During Hannah's time at Writtle University, she had the opportunity to perform her own research, investigating the effect of different materials on pressure underneath a training roller. Hannah now uses this knowledge to help provide insight to veterinary professionals, riders, trainers and owners on how to use certain training equipment (such as the Pessoa training aid) safely and effectively. Hannah is very passionate about her job and wants to make sure every client is thriving, whether your horse/dog needs a check up every few months or continued weekly support, we can arrange packages to suit your needs, just contact Hannah to discuss this. Hannah is a firm believer that physiotherapy treatment is optimal with a collaborative approach, meaning Hannah is happy to work along side owners, farriers, nutritionist, vets etc. This ensures that every angle is targeted to make sure your animal has the best environment possible for recovery or performance.
What is veterinary physiotherapy?
Veterinary physiotherapy encompasses a range of therapeutic techniques and exercises designed specifically for animals. It involves the application of various physical therapy techniques to help animals recover from injuries, surgeries, or musculoskeletal conditions, improve their mobility, and enhance their overall well-being. At Loosley Veterinary Physiotherapy, we provide manual techniques such as massage, stretching and mobilisation. We also offer electrotherapy treatments including heat therapy, LASER therapy and PEMF therapy. These techniques address a wide variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, post-surgical recovery, and age-related mobility issues.
Improving
Performance
Regular physiotherapy can help identify and address potential issues before they become significant problems. This proactive approach can prevent injuries and maintain the horse's peak physical condition.
Physiotherapy can enhance a horse's overall performance by improving their strength, flexibility, and range of motion. It can also help them move more efficiently and effectively, leading to better performance in various disciplines. Performance horses often engage in rigorous training and competition, which can lead to muscle strain and fatigue. Physiotherapy helps to maintain the health and strength of the muscles, reducing the risk of performance-limiting injuries.
Physiotherapy techniques, such as manual therapy and modalities like LASER therapy, can help alleviate pain in performance horses, enabling them to perform at their best without discomfort. Horses' joints are under significant stress during intense training and performance. Physiotherapy can promote joint mobility, reduce stiffness, and minimise the risk of joint-related issues.
